sunday's here. :)

went to imh yday, n gt to know some of e volunteers there, n oso 2 of e patients. there aren't many who came yday, abt 11 or so, n they're nice people. some r students, but in their third year, n others r working already. n a few of them have done this for a very long time, since the time they were in uni.

didn't really know how to approach e patients at first. (we had adopted a male ward for schizophrenic patients, n visit them once per week.) between e volunteers n e patients, they're quite close, n know each other by name. its not difficult to approach them n say hi, what's yr name, what're u doing, n things like that. with their medication, they're normal people, like any one of us. but for them, they're confined to their wards, they can't go out to have fun like we do, n some of them don't have family or don't get visits from their family.

some of them are in their 30s to 40s already. n i believe that they'd led simple lives like us, in e past. maybe it was genetics, or something had triggered it, i don't know. it would be a good thing to chat with them n be their friend, so that they won't be as lonely.

it may come as a shock to see them behaving a little strangely. depending on their condition, their speech may not be understandable. n sometimes when they talk abt who they are, it may not be real, perhaps out of their imagination. its sad to know that there's no cure for the illness itself, only treatment to improve their conditions.

we'll be having a x'mas party next sat, e 26th. there'll be food n presents for them, a performance by a few of e volunteers; i hope we can bring them some joy. :))
