got my books on tuesday for only $58! :)

went to school yesterday- wanted to sign up for e broadband they had at half price, but it was out of stock. so i decided to tour the school on my own! n proud to say i got to e biz sch by walking! haha, though got a bit lost along e way n asked the auntie cleaners for directions.

there r 2 blocks-biz1 n biz2. found the LTs but couldn't for e SRs- the directory i saw didn't incl a few seminar rms. but will figure it out when sch opens. :)

i almost forgot, i went to the CCA booths 2! saw a lot of ccas, e most common ones were dance n choir. they also hv kendo, dragonboat, rotaract club (comm. service) n entrepreneurial society i think.. so many i can't rmbr. took their phamplets n all. not sure if i should join a cca this semester-when i haven't adapt to e environment n workload yet. they all start around 630, so will end quite late at 9pm.

oh n went to e booth for their student exchange prog/ SEP. hope very much to go during my 2nd or 3rd yr, exp what its like overseas! there r a lot of overseas unis that we can choose from- from asia to australia to europe. but don't think can afford. heard there are scholarships for the SEP, but of cos e criteria is i must do well academically 1st. if not there r loans available, just nt sure if i'll want to add on to e bank n sch loan some more.

hello! :)

got my timetable for this sem. not arranged nicely but can't change it for this sem- 3 days with lessons until 6pm! also, the tutorials will all be in seminar rms, which proly means everyone has to speak up & discuss their ideas during lessons, v different from the tutorials we had in jc.

went to a sch webbie yesterday n saw a used TB forum! haha a lot of people selling their used texts, since they've completed e module alr. had to compare prices from a number of people- because the prices they quote r so high for some, lower for others. although the sch hasn't said which texts r compulsory/ recommended, decided to buy first those texts tt a lot of 2nd yr students r selling, bcos tt proly means its needed or useful for a module.

after getting a headache from looking at all their ads, these are e texts i think are useful for these modules. left is the module code. :)

MNO1001 Management: A Practical Introduction, Kinicki & Williams, 3rd Ed.
MKT1003 Principles of Marketing: A Global Perspective, Philip Kotler etc.
DSC2006 Operations Management, Stevenson, 9th Ed.
BSP1004 Introduction to Business Law, Ravi Chandran, 3rd Ed.
BSP1005 Microeconomics, Besanko & Braeutigam, 3rd Ed.
ACC1002 Financial Accounting in Singapore & Malaysis, Harrison & Horngren, 1st Ed

managed to get 3 of these bks, plus another 1 for Biz Law, from a 2nd yr student i think, selling a lot cheaper than others. will collect them fr her tml, den can start reading up a bit le!

went to the temple at bishan where my grandparents' ashes are, to pray for them earlier in the morning. quite surprised to see quite a lot of people there, though its not 'qing ming jie'. i miss my po po and gong gong!

have to go to school agn tomorrow, bcos there's an error in my loan agrmt. also, told alister's father abt my decision not to continue teaching, bcos school's starting soon n i'm afraid i cannot manage both well. glad n relieved tt he said its ok, but will continue for one or two wks until a replacement's been found.

agn found it v difficult to teach him last wed-he's behaving like the past wks again, doesn't want to do any work, nor listen. i find that i can't manage teaching small children, bcos i need them to work with me, to know not everything's abt fun and playing.

school's starting very soon, but won't be going for Ocamp so it'll begin 11 aug. i wish i can make myself look forward to it more, but i can't. afraid to be on my own esp when everything n everyone's unfamiliar. but i must cope with it.

finished watching Spring Waltz :) a v sad and touching story, most imptly it has a happy ending, haha.

went for nus registration on Friday--queued for one hr plus just to submit my docs n collect e student card, tertiary ezlink card etc. didn't know anyone so waited alone. felt anti-social and a bit sad to find myself without any friends. i suppose i'll find some of my own along e way.

have almost decided not to tutor anymore, because having to do it 2 nights in a week will leave me a lot less time for studying. will need more time than others to revise, bcos i'm slower. have to take a bus to his house n back, reach at 7, reach home abt 9.30. feeling quite troubled n bad about leaving him half-way, but my lessons with him tires not only him, but me. he's behaving badly like e past few weeks. find it difficult to teach effectively.

:(

wednesday! :)

tuition on monday was a lot btr, n for e first time in many wks, i feel happy, nt angry, teaching him. i'm glad it did help, having his father talk to him. but i hope too that it'll remain this way. will see how today's goes!

went to sign the study loan yesterday; borrowed the whole of the tuition fees from the bank n school, with living allowance too. the 20% from the school's interest-free, that's good! :) will return all of the money after i begin working, so that's ok.

Monday, July 20, 2009,8:44 AM

ost-spring waltz! :))

,8:16 AM

nothing much for this week too, bt hv to go to sch agn on tues n fri, to sign e study loan, n register for my course. :))

have been having some problems tutoring, feel angry n frustrated aft tuition all the time. perhaps i'm not a good teacher, nor patient enough, i don't know! i hate to see how little effort he's putting into his work from school, his forgetting to do all the little assignments i give him, but most of all his lousy attitude.

then i'm thinking he'd be better off, learning more in group tuitions, bcs others are learning as well, n being outside his home, he'll behave better. but i really don't think a child needs tuition at primary one! daily parent supervision would be better, n more effective. but of cos e parents will have to make time for their child. :)

told his father abt his attitude alr. if its still no use, then i'll stop teaching him.

Friday, July 17, 2009,9:03 AM

friday's here!

haha, haven't bn doing much at home, bt enjoying the hols! finished episode 7 of Spring Waltz yesterday. the story's sad bt happy at e same time, very touching.

was reading the book on advanced theory of driving, n find there're a lot of things to coordinate when driving by manual. depress the clutch, release the accelerator at e same time, change gears, n all the while hv to control the steering wheel n look out for traffic, front back left right, haha it must be a very tiring task for learning drivers.

bt won't be having driving lessons any time soon, just fascinated seeing others drive. :) will learn proly in 5 yrs' time, aft i start working. to all e drivers out on the roads, take care n drive safely!

Wednesday, July 15, 2009,11:02 AM

spring waltz, haha! :D

(pls turn off e music player b4 listening. )

,10:24 AM

growing to like mj more, haha! went to nally's hse on monday aft my lasik review, n her mom drove us to e chalet agn. but sadly the hse was almost empty, except jeff, who ltr left for msia. only in e afternn then chiew yin, yu xuan, n yaoliang came. in e end we played bridge, then mj for a few hrs, haha, den it was time to leave for tuitn. i'll miss the beautiful sea, our seaview resort, n changi beach park!

e 2nd lasik review was alright--my corneal flaps are healing well, but vision's still around 85% only. may tke another 2 mths or so to recover n get bk more. haha bt good there's no infection! nw still getting used to nt wearing specs; its a lot mre convenient when i go out, watch tv n everything else, haha.

went for uni med exam on tues morning. couldn't see the uhc at first, bt walk walk a bit then could find it le. relieved i didn't get lost, bcos i always manage to in e big shopping centres. stupid stupid, haha!

watching Spring Waltz, a korean drama series i brwed fr nally. its v nice! very in CAPS haha. nw going to episode 5 le haha! n thank u nally tan for ur dvds n the driving manual!

Sunday, July 12, 2009,2:22 PM

jiaxin loves riding on a bicycle!

haha but still can't do it on my own. ty dear ms tan for being my teacher! i have failed her. still, i'm determined, haha! want to attempt it again if there's a chance.

went to my geog class chalet on friday and sat, n enjoyed spending the day there, pretty much.

on friday, nally drove me, shenchen, yaoliang and yong kuan to our saf seaview resort! its the prettiest chalet i've ever seen, two-storey, and comes equipped with all the facilities we proly need. good ventilation with the ceiling fans alone, but u cn switch on the aircons too if u dont mind the high electricity bill, haha! two bedrooms both facing the sea, where u cn see some ships passing by. e the curvy, almost circular staircase. if it were my home.. :) but no, not in changi!

since there weren't many of us, we played cards, took a walk near the beach (which wasn't pretty bcs it was dirty), then walked to changi village for dinner together. they have a famous nasi lemak stall there, but ms tan n i ate chicken n mushroom roti johns, haha, n drank teh tarik! its quite nice, the bread, n its big, made me v full lol. yuxuan . chiew yin ordered stingray that was super spicy haha, i cannot stand it. after dinner we strolled bck to e chalet, by then it was nine n almost time to leave. so we squeezed into nally's parents' car, 5 of us in the backseat. sorry ms tan, make u become sardine haha, n thanks for e ride!

went to nally's hse on sat around noon, n had spagetti cooked by her mom, before taking her mom's car to e chalet. ty mrs tan haha! benny, jeffrey n a few other girls were there. nally, sc and me went for a walk, n ended up at changi beach park which was a little far from where we were. there were a lot of people there, swimming, barbequing and kayaking! haha n we rented bicycles--a single and double, bcos i didn't know hw to ride one lol. so i sat in the backseat, nally in front, and cycled quite far. the wind felt good on my face haha. then ms tan tried to teach me hw to cycle, but sadly i couldn't, even aft 15 min. haha i must learn it one day!

we got back after returning e bikes, then played ball with jeff, yl, benny and gabriel. our geog teacher ms lim came in the evening; v happy to see her! ms jacinta lim came came later. we celebrated yl's bday bt i had to leave halfway bcos it was getting late. took a taxi with ms j lim n shelvi to changi airport t3, since that's e nearest mrt away. took e train home on my own; it was a v long ride!

(to be continued, haha.)

Thursday, July 9, 2009,7:29 AM

no more tuition for this week, hooray!

can almost feel my white hair growing longer when teaching him, bcos like many other children, he's very playful. very in caps! haha then my patience wears off, n i feel like pulling his hair out! still, since i had chosen to take it up, i shouldn't be giving up halfway through the school year. at the very least, see him through primary one, then decide if i want to take it further.

having geog class chalet tomorrow! but for today, have to apply for e tertiary ezlink card, return my books, then go to open my own bank acct for e purpose of paying uni fees. uni med check-up on tues, 2nd lasik eval on monday.

Tuesday, July 7, 2009,9:52 AM

saturday evening, went to holland v with my sec sch buddies- jocelyn, eugene, shiquan n liying!

don't have any pics bcos we didn't take any, haha, but we had dinner at Thaiexpress. the food was quite good, the price for a main rice/ noodles dish abt 10.00. couldn't understand what some of the dishes were, although they did elaborate on the menu, ended up having the pinapple rice with seafood. warning to those who haven't eaten thr or r gg to: never order the dishes rated with 3 or 4 chillies if u can't tke spicy, haha! because either ur face or ears will turn red after eating, esp eugene with his black pepper chicken, hohoho! but sq managed to finish her spicy noodles rated 4 chillies haha.

hadn't wanted to, but ended up going to a pub there, called Aesop, bcos we were waiting for joce. they didn't have any non-alc. drinks on the menu, only beer. so i stared at the menu for a while, den asked e waiter which was the lightest, as in alcohol content. he was a bit puzzled by my qn, den recommended the Kilkenny, which i think was 4.7%., that i ordered. its BITTER! and no, i didn't drink the whole cup, not even half a cup because i didn't fancy getting drunk. the others had Erdinger, which was slightly higher in alc. at 5.3%, but tasted better bcos it was less bitter. n so my conclusion is... don't drink beer, or any alc drinks to start with, bcos they don't taste good, makes ur face turn red, n causes u to lose ur sober-ness.

went home v late that night, almost 12. n thought that it'd be better to avoid those places tt are v crowded like holland v, esp with the flu spreading so easily.

,9:12 AM

hee yea! have printed out all the forms tt need to be submitted when going for registration. will fill them up later.

its a week since my lasik op. still can't see very clearly; i hope it'll get better real soon! had the op last tues, decided to do it bcos my myopia's almost reached 1000 for one eye. there are four options for conventional lasik: they are VISX Custom (Microkeratome), Wavefront (Microkeratome), Custom (IntraLase) and Wavefront (IntraLase). LASIK corrects vision by reshaping the cornea. microkeratome means blade, while intralase's bladeless.

i had the custom intralase, which is $2,588 w/out GST, n after adding up the cost of medication, it totals $2,900++, slightly less then $3,000. these are some things i hadn't knew before surgery:

the bladeless mtd (intralase) allows the cutting of a thinner corneal flap, compared to e microkeratome.

although the Wavefront mtd's more precise (treats both lower- and higher-order aberrations, compared to only lower-order for Custom), it will remove a more significant amt of corneal tissue than the Custom mtd. there4, for those with high myopia (abt 1000 in each eye), e doctor may recommend Custom (intralase), bcos it removes less corneal tissue. this means ur cornea after surgery will be thicker than it'd have been using Wavefront (microkeratome).

the discomfort during surgery is minor, only during the cutting of corneal flap, when the suction ring's placed on the eye and pressure's applied to create the corneal flap. n the laser that sculpts the cornea makes a loud tak-tak-tak sound when its on, haha. the surgeon also pasted my eyelashes to kp it out of the way, before cutting the flap.

the surgery's only around 10 min; during and after that there was a lot of tearing in my right eye. while on the cab home, couldn't help closing my eyes, because of the anaesthetic/ numbing eye drops they put before surgery. it was very uncomfortable, so i went to sleep early, haha.

the next morning, my vision's a lot clearer le, but alot more blurry compared to wearing glasses. my post is getting too long haha! shall end here. if anyone's having lasik, u cn consider Lasik Surgery Clinic, at Paragon, and dr marc tay.

Thursday, July 2, 2009,6:51 PM

my first post after surgery!

still can't see very clearly, pardon my spelling errors haha. very fortunately for me, its successful! i've only gotten back abt 75% of my vision, bt it'll gradually improve.

for the pre-lasik eval, had to go, then wait for test after test. eye power, pressure, corneal thickness etc. altogether it took abt 3 plus hrs haha, which is considered good le.

had to wait again for 2 hrs, since my surgery's scheduled at 5pm. the surgery was a short 10 mins, and the OT was a bit scary, quite dark haha. since i wasn't wearing glasses, couldn't see the docs clearly. but lying down and seeing the lights on top of me, it reminded me of the dentists' visits so many yrs ago. the most uncomfortable part was the cutting and lifting of the corneal flap, because of the suction ring and high pressure. oh, and i had the custom intralase, at lsc by dr marc tay.

its good to have my vision back, though not fully now. no more glasses le, haha!

i promised myself to take better care of my eyes, to prevent myopia from coming back. less reading, and if i have to, under good lighting. and stare at trees more often! haha will post again when i can see better!
